There's something gloriously intense and evocatively sweet about "Vampire Bride," the single from the latest The Raspberry Jams album. A melodic art-punk swoon bound up in brooding bass lines and indie rock fuzz, this song sinks its teeth into the heart of obsessive love and refuses to let go.
Taken from their forthcoming debut record "Kitty Cat Fever," this re-recorded edition of "Vampire Bride" remains both slick and raw as fuck, which is exactly how it should be when it comes to a song inspired by the joint teenage obsession of Edward Cullen from Twilight movie. There is sincerity in the self-centered and surprising emotional weight behind the heavy grooves and melodies.
The track slinks in with a sense of foreboding, and thudding bass lines pulse like your heart waiting to get shattered. It's darker than past work from the band. Poetically, it's an ode to loneliness, wanting to be the chosen one, the eternal partner in an ancient fantasy that skates the line between romantic and insane. It is gorgeously dramatic, a gothic daydream veiled in eyeliner and guitar distortion.
What sets "Vampire Bride" is how The Raspberry Jams make it feel personal, real, and, somehow, comforting. You don't have to be undead to know what it's like to crave someone to the point of danger.
