Goddamn Wolves return with a track that's both cheeky and cathartic, flipping indie rock tropes and giving them a wink and a roar. North Carolina-based trio of Chris, Laura, and Drew has been carving out a niche with their classic alt-rock gnarliness combined with a fresh indie urgency. This song only hones that edge. From the moment it fires up, "I Hate This Song" streaks along a crunchy, riff-forward groove with razor-sharp accuracy. Laura and Chris's dueling vocals, an integral element of the Wolves' sound, ping off one another with a rebellious chemistry that makes the chaos feel familial, intimate, and almost conversational.
It's a tongue-in-cheek nod to the love-hate relationship we all share with specific songs or maybe with our own creative process.
