Singer and actress Halle Bailey has filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, rapper DDG, after what she described as a slew of disturbing occurrences that have recently surfaced. The Little Mermaid actress, who is mom to 17-month-old son Halo with DDG-born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., was awarded a temporary domestic violence restraining order on May 13 by a Los Angeles court.
The restraining order comes days after reports of a violent encounter in January, where Bailey alleges DDG assaulted her physically during an argument. The attack occurred inside a vehicle, where DDG allegedly smashed Bailey's face into the steering wheel, court papers say. She was left with a chipped tooth and visible bruising to her arm following the alleged assault. Pictures of the injuries were included in the restraining order.
"I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain," Bailey wrote in her court declaration. The singer drew attention not only to the physical hurt but also to the emotional pain and the possible effect on their young son. "Darryl lacks an understanding of how his actions impact Halo. He is often verbally abusive towards me in front of Halo," she said.

Bailey's account also described a history of abusive conduct that went beyond the January incident. In March, she alleges that DDG unlawfully came into her home without her permission when she was not there and then subsequently messaged her with a threat. Days later, he reportedly upped the ante by locking her out of her own home and throwing her mobile phone from his moving car.
These have been part of a history of intimidation and mental cruelty, Bailey says. She claims DDG regularly uses his platform as he has millions of followers on YouTube and Twitch to trash-talk her, inciting online harassment and threats against her. I have done everything possible to avoid going to Court," Bailey said. "I have tried to placate Darryl by providing him access to Halo, even though he is not with Halo and often leaves Halo with his Mother. I have facilitated his visits, no matter where I am and often last minute."
The singer explained that despite her wanting to keep things peaceful and be amicable co-parents, DDG's behavior forced her hand to take legal action. I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. I cannot keep living like this." The restraining order prevents DDG from coming within 100 yards of Bailey, her home, or her place of work and limits his time with their son while the case is pending.
This tragic case illustrates the very real struggles a lot of women continue to experience trying to co-parent with abusive exes. Bailey's decision to come forward is not just about protecting herself and her child but could also spur other survivors to seek assistance and legal action. As the legal process continues to play out, the public follows, not just because the case involves two prominent public figures but because it brings up broader conversations around domestic abuse, co-parenting, and what public figures should be held accountable for. For now, Halle Bailey's choice to finally stand up and protect herself and now her son is both brave and sends a powerful message that abuse, whether physical, emotional, or verbal, does not belong in any relationship.
