Halle Bailey, the aspiring Hollywood actress known to millions as The Little Mermaid, is fighting a different kind of war to shield her son, Halo. In a deeply personal and haunting twist of events, Bailey recently filed and was granted sole physical and legal custody of Halo after making serious abuse claims against her ex-boyfriend, who is known professionally as rapper DDG but was born Daryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.
As of May 13, Bailey has also been granted a temporary restraining order for domestic violence against DDG, according to court records. The temporary order is for the rapper to remain at least 100 yards away from Halle and Halo until the scheduled court sitting on June 4. This would be at her home, car, and other areas she regularly visits. The court also prohibited DDG from contacting Bailey directly and blocked him from seeing their son until further notice.
The move by Bailey to go for full custody and legal protection comes after a string of alleged abuse and unsettling behavior. The Color Purple star allegedly described several instances of physical and verbal abuse in court papers, with one particular incident in January detailed in her claim.
During that incident, Bailey accused DDG of hitting her face into the steering wheel as she was trying to buckle their son into his car. The attack left her visibly bruised and with a chipped tooth, an injury she suffered, according to pictures that accompanied the court documents. Their relationship was plagued by violent incidents, including one in which he hurled her against walls. Bailey said about this and similar episodes of physical abuse that caused their relationship to end officially in October 2024, after two years of dating.

Aside from the physical treatment, Bailey has some serious problems with DDG's parenting practices. Accordingly, the court has also made an order for the prevention of child abduction. DDG can no longer apply for any travel documentation for Halo, including passports. This legal fight has drawn the curtain back on a dramatic divide between Halle's public image, a poised, graceful artist adored by fans worldwide, and the private turmoil she has experienced behind the scenes. Bailey has largely kept the details of her and DDG's romance under wraps until now, but her recent legal moves imply a sense of urgency and desperation to protect her child.
For fans and onlookers, the saga has highlighted the invisible demons even celebrities must wage public wars against in their personal lives. As the singer has maintained her image as a role model to young women through her career and poise, Halle Bailey is now displaying a new form of bravery as a mother fighting to shield her child from what she says is an unhealthy environment. The court is scheduled to reconsider the matter on June 4, when a judge will determine whether to establish the custody agreement and restraining order permanently. In the meantime, Bailey has sole jurisdiction over Halo's well-being, education, and medical care. The disgraced producer, who has yet to comment publicly on the allegations, has been ordered to have no contact with his son or ex-girlfriend.
The public will no doubt watch closely as the legal process plays out. But for Halle Bailey, this is about safety, stability, and a chance to raise her son unafraid. Faced with trauma, Halle Bailey is becoming a voice of resilience, not only for herself, sure, but for all mothers who felt forced to safeguard what was important.
