Moon Cub releases dreamy new anthem with "Utopia 90"

With young married couple Rob and Suzy Muir as the musical brainchild, Moon Cub provides an entrancing getaway for the contemporary listener in their debut single, "Utopia 90." Half-Trip Hop nostalgia, half-indie electronica caress, this track is like opening an old photo album under pale, flickering neon lights.

"Utopia 90" enshrouds you in a cozy ambient haze. Rob Muir's intricate production is subtle but lush and stacked with drifting textures, chilled-out rhythms, and a quietly assertive feel for mood. Suzy Muir's vocals float in like a recollection muted, contemplative, and pained with a yearning for easier days. Her voice is the compass for all lost in the fog of memories. Pete Norman's saxophone solo deepens the ache that grabs at the corners of the heart.

The song captures the sadness of long-distance travel and all those fleeting moments when the world blurs by a window, and you remember what it felt like to be younger and brand hopeful. It's addressed to that lost optimism and dressed in dreamy synths and lo-fi textures.

"Utopia 90" is a declaration of artistic intention. Moon Cub, the band, marks the beginning of their desire to break out of Rob's solo project, LUNA WAVES, and pursue their shared creative input. This debut release suggests their musical relationship and lays the groundwork for what promises to be an intensely personal debut album, "Skyline Waiting Room," due this summer. This track is really a mood, nothing more sweeping than that. And if you've ever wanted to get a little lost in the past for a while, Moon Cub has the listen you've been hoping for to power your personal getaway machine.
