NFL John Elway's Former Agent Jeff Sperbeck Dies At 61 After Golf Cart Accident

The sports and entertainment world is reeling from the unexpected death of Jeff Sperbeck, the prominent NFL agent and longtime business associate of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway. Tragically, Sperbeck, 61, died April 30 from a traumatic brain injury he suffered in a golf cart accident four days prior in La Quinta, Calif.

The incident happened on April 26, when Sperbeck and Elway were headed home from a post-party at the Stagecoach Festival, which took place at the site of a private golf community. Elway was behind the wheel of the cart when Sperbeck tumbled from the rear of the cart and hit his head on the asphalt, according to police. The fall caused a head injury, which resulted in him being knocked unconscious.

An hour after Elway heard the news, he was hearing about it again, this time firsthand, when Sperbeck, one of Elway's closest friends for decades and a fellow Colorado sports fanatic, called 911. When paramedics arrived, they found Sperbeck still breathing but unresponsive. He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and put on life support. Despite the best attempts of the medical team, he died from his injuries in the small hours of April 30.

The Riverside Sheriff's Office has confirmed it has opened an investigation into the accident, although there have been no suggestions of criminal wrongdoing or intent in the incident. The tragedy has rocked the NFL and the greater sports representation world, where Sperbeck was regarded as an admired and trailblazing figure.
