Rising Melbourne artist ReeToxA makes his debut with "Pines Salad," a breathtaking new album. ReeToxA introduces himself to the world with one of his most dramatic performances, "Bobbie." A fixture in his city's underground music community, ReeToxA, the brainchild of McKee, now emerges with a tale that's as personal as it is aurally transporting.
"Bobbie" burrows deep into grief, regret, and healing themes, underpinned by McKee's evocative vocal performances and textured rock arrangements. Hailing from Melbourne with his powerhouse band of Australian session legends Kit Riley, James Ryan, and Peter Marin, the track walks the line of heavy emotion and clean, sharp production. There is a grunge edge that tips its hat to his influence in Kurt Cobain, delicately packed into melodies that hearken to the sincerities of early Taylor Swift.
A video directed by Josh Rockman, who edited it, fills in the picture. Filmed at the windswept Kerferd Rd Pier, the video mirrors McKee's raw longing for closure following the death of his mother while he was incarcerated. Then, tucked in amidst the archival home footage of his mum and a surprise visit from a flight-bound bird, the tribute takes its place as truly quietly profound. Heartfelt yet straightforward, the video has resonated with many, as it got over 10,000 likes on TikTok and Instagram.
More than a talent showcase, this is an artist's debut who finally found a way to turn pain into purpose. And if this first single is any indication, McKee's right-since-forever time in the spotlight is finally beginning.
