Canberra's Ben Rankin is back, bringing a blazing new track, "All Is Well In Hell." It's a cathartic headbutt to the abdomen, and we wouldn't want it any other way. The barnburner of a track is a mix of early 2010s metalcore abrasion and unapologetic emotion, packaged in the sheen of DIY heartland innovation.
Ben's grubby little fingerprints are all over this one. From recording to programming to mixing, the entire project was overseen by the artist in his home studio, a choice that lends the track an intimate, nearly confessional shade. You can feel the loneliness, the reflection, and the internal fire that drives every note. Queenslander mastering engineer Levi Russell provided the finishing touches and mastering services, a strand in a collaborative thread that began weaving in 2023.
Picking much of its DNA from bands such as A Day To Remember and Asking Alexandria, "All Is Well In Hell" relies on memories rather than imitation. Instead, Ben Rankin reenacts that volatile teenage anger and repackages it through a prism of adult musicianship. The song is familiar yet fresh, a little lost Warped Tour anthem being dug up for a new age.
The production still hits hard, mainly due to Ben's innovative use of forward-thinking plugins that make the song feel lush and dynamic, quite an accomplishment when the only thing he recorded was a scorching, raw, burning track at home. But what jumps out is the unvarnished passion in his vocal delivery. Howling guitar pedals never sound more urgent than when appended to a song about waiting in a patient line. "All Is Well In Hell" is a signal flare. Ben Rankin is here to be heard. And if this single indicates, we'd be well-advised to keep listening.
