Discomalaria! pays homage with new single "Jimmy T"

Discomalaria! is back with a song that breaks the mold and pays tribute to unsung heroes we meet daily. The latest single, "Discomalaria!" from the upcoming album of the same title, is an unexpected hybrid of gothfunk grooves and experimentals that walk in the shoes of a bass guitar.

This a reference to a local figure, whose identity is still unknown, who's been tagging "Jimmy T, sucka" around town, inspired by a mysterious local graffiti artist the song references. Discomalaria! noticed no tribute to this local legend and decided to change that. One day, riding back to his place, he saw another Jimmy T tag, which gave him the idea to write a song about this mysterious character. "Sometimes we need to nod to those local heroes," the artist says,  so "Jimmy T" was born.

There are no drum machines anymore, just ordinary vocals, but a track where, except for the bass, everything is made on a bass guitar with effects like arpeggiators and PLLs. The outcome is a densely textured, groovy affair, replete with layers that add to the track's individualistic mood. In a group where the bass guitar is often an accompanying instrument, it is the main feature, again showing its strength and flexibility. The metaphysical landscape has mysterious, bass-driven grooves and ghostly, off-kilter frequencies. "Jimmy T" is a tribute to the local legends who don't always make the headlines but make their mark nonetheless.
