Gypsy Rose Blanchard Breaks Silence Calling Ex Nicholas Godejohn A "Deeply Disturbed" Man

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is speaking out in a new series. In a raw, emotional statement obtained exclusively by PEOPLE and shared on June 25, the 33-year-old who spent eight and a half years behind bars for her role in the 2015 stabbing death of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, wants to set the record straight and get her voice back.

Now that Gypsy's release is in the rearview, however, Gypsy is not forgetting what happened to leave her life in a shambles, and she is definitely not letting her entire story be written by or for Nicholas Godejohn, her former boyfriend and accomplice who is now serving a life sentence. In a rare, candid moment on Instagram, Gypsy discussed the unanswered questions and the stories that continue to circulate about her and Godejohn's role in the matter. "When I accepted my sentence, I accepted the weight of my choices," she wrote. "I served my time. That was my accountability and I've carried it for years. I don't' owe the past anything more."

But her post was not limited to introspection. It swiveled directly toward the man she had once sought to lean on as an escape. "As for Nicholas Godejohn," she said firmly, "Yes, he is a deeply disturbed man." She explained that although she had contributed to what had happened in some way, the distinction was one of intent. "Regardless of my role of unintentional manipulation, this type of manipulation isn't rooted in malice. It's often a reflection of past trauma, fear of abandonment, or a lack of emotional tools. The key difference is intent."

Gypsy's words represent a remarkable reversal. Once, she may have been perceived as a victim-turned-accomplice, but recently, she has been expressing a more nuanced view of justice, mental health, and individual responsibility. Her message may reflect a confident distinction between her own development and Godejohn's continued imprisonment. As she goes on to rebuild her life, Gypsy ensures that everyone knows she has served her time and is no longer interested in being the keeper of anyone else's truth but her own.
