In a bizarre celebrity mishap, beloved YouTuber/children's content creator Ms. Rachel has somehow gone months without realizing she had ignored everyone's favorite front-woman, Rihanna, because she didn't know it was her to begin with. While Ms. Rachel has finally seen her moment, the event occurred when Rihanna reached out to Ms. Rachel via Instagram direct message.
Rihanna also took to her world with the post shared through her Instagram account @badgalriri. But when Ms. Rachel thought of the name, it sounded like a rock star about as well-known as her last name. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Accurso, revealed that she had initially missed the entire message on the Aug. 7 episode of Not Gonna Lie with Kyle Kelce Podcast. "I am an elder millennial, so I'm not amazing with Instagram," she admitted. So I didn't know about the requests and top requests, so I ghosted some people for months."

Even when she discovered Rihanna's DM, the thought never crossed her mind. "When I saw a 'bad girl Riri,' I was like, 'Wow this person has so many followers," she says. And I thought, "This is such a cute little profile picture, because it's a drawing." A monochrome sketch that has, for over a decade, acted as the glaringly original profile picture of Rihanna. In Ms. Rachel's case, however, it took some digging around to realize the truth. I asked a few people if they knew it, she recalled. It was then that I realized I had long been ignoring Rihanna without realizing it.
The admission has led to laughter and empathy online, as one fan said they had also missed essential messages in their Instagram request folders. Ms. Rachel's candid confession was also indicative of the divide that sometimes separates our tech-savvy Gen Z outliers from those among us whose followers on social media find the distinct characteristics of social media to be somewhat enigmatic.
While we are not sure what the ins and outs of Rihanna's first DM were, Ms. Rachel won't be missing any celebrity DMs anytime soon. As for Rihanna, she has a story to tell about how even global superstars can fall foul, especially from someone whose diary is jam-packed with singing nursery rhymes and being the life and soul of millions of children. This is a reminder that sometimes, even in the age of instant communication, the highest celebrities can still get lost in the request folder.
