MasterChef alum Yanin Campos has died at the age of 38 from a serious car accident in her hometown of Chihuahua, Mexico, on Aug. Campos, who won our hearts with her effervescent personality and innovative cooking on the hugely popular fourth season of the widely loved culinary competition show, had been in a horrific car accident during an early-morning drive on August 2. The Mexican Secretariat of Public Security says it happened about 6:30 a.m. when she slammed into a parked vehicle in Chihuahua. While she was rushed to a local hospital, she died of her injuries two days later.
Her brother, Raul Campos, announced the sad news on social media, saying, "To family and friends, We inform and mourn the death of my sister Yanin Campos." A wake later in the day at Hernández Funeral Home provided an opportunity for friends to say their final goodbyes. She was a finalist on MasterChef (6th season), a bold, vivacious powerhouse in the kitchen. This former contestant weaves her cultural heritage and beaming aura into every meal. Viewers and judges were struck by her palate creativity as well as her fierce will to win, which rendered her a season favorite.
