Zawe Ashton Breaks Silence On Secret Wedding Rumors With Tom Hiddleston

Zawe Ashton is finally breaking her silence on the speculation surrounding her romance with Tom Hiddleston. Although reports and heck, even her good friends have referred to the Loki actor as her husband, the Marvels star wants fans and inquisitive family members to know there isn't a wedding ring on Sammy's hand just yet.

Getting real on the Miss Me? on Thursday, Ashton set the record straight about their perpetually misunderstood relationship, a confusion that was heightened after Vogue accidentally referred to Hiddleston as her husband in its September issue. The slip set off a firestorm of congratulatory texts and some bewildered accusations, too, from friends who thought the couple had secretly married. "There's some toxic paragraphs that were thrown my way like, 'OK, no invite, whatever,'" Ashton laughed. "It's like 'No, no, no, it didn't happen."

The 41-year-old British actress added that while she and Hiddleston are thoroughly committed, having been engaged for some time now, they're not yet officially husband and wife. And it's not as if they have run away from them behind anyone else's back. "We didn't do it in secret," she said. "We haven't eloped. It's just like a semantic thing." Ashton and Hiddleston, who appeared in the 2019 West End production of Betrayal together, welcomed their first child this year and recently revealed that they are expecting a baby. The couple has largely kept their private life out of the public eye, which is why speculation continues to fill that void.
