Licity Collins releases a sound of freedom with "Dragon"

Licity Collins returns with "Dragon," a genre-bending instrumental that honors the raw energy of creativity. A collision of jazz, funk, and classical sensibilities, the track absolutely vibrates with color, movement, and spirit, an exhilarating ride through rhythm and melody that feels alive at every turn.

Written at a two-week creative retreat in the woods, "Dragon" is the product of spontaneous collaboration and unhindered inspiration. Cradled by Collins's delicate acoustic guitar and rhythmic bass formation, the song resonates with raw, spontaneous vitality. When Meghan Coil's violin enters the song, it takes an entirely different direction, and the melodies flit, twist, and soar like sparks from an open flame.

Further expanding the palette are the bassoon of Nicole Buetti, and recorder of Laura Kuhlman, two instruments not typically associated with tunes like these. The trip crests with Traverse Such's crunchy but concise electric guitar solo, staying just within the lines like captured lightning.

"Dragon" sounds like a conversation between artists, instruments, and elements. It is patience, curiosity, and the unpredictable happiness of creation. Collins welcomes us into this world as her subject matter is an emotional experience we share. At a time when so much music sounds formulaic, "Dragon" is like a shout for freedom to explore, to listen closely, and to make without boundaries. It is a musical world where there is a real sense of intent in every note and pause.

  1. Thank you for this thoughtful review! I'm delighted that you heard exactly what we put into it! One small correction, please: Nicole Buetti is indeed on bassoon, but recorders are played by Laura Kuhlman. Thanks again for listening and for the review!again
