Noble Hops journey through reflections and memories on "The Trunk"

From the moment Noble Hops' "The Trunk" kicks in, a muted tension is palpable in the air. The song, more of a time capsule than anything else, was penned by Utah Burgess. It's a solid letter, one that's handed down from generation to generation.

The story is about a son excavating through his father's chest full of memories, piecing together fragments of a life lived in the shadow of the Vietnam War, and discovering how what settles on the past can quietly define the present.

In this release, Burgess's singing and rhythm guitar have a raw, exposed presence, perfectly paired with Tony Villella's exacting, reverberating lead lines. Johnny "Sleeves" Costa and "The" Brad Hulburt provide rhythm and depth to the song, making each word feel consequential without losing the story.

Jazz Byers' touch in the production enhances the storytelling, infusing percussion into acoustic flourishes that sound like footprints in a dusty attic. Throughout, Mike Ofca's mixing and mastering ensure that every sound is a gentle strum or drum strike that punctuates a memory.

The Trunk" is also a meditation on memory, loss, and the stories that families shroud in silence over generations. Noble Hops accomplishes this, taking a storytelling lyric sound and balancing it with the roughness and warmth of modern rock. The public is asked to listen and to think about its own history, the quiet echoes of the past, and when and how we find the truths hidden in our own trunks.
