"SOLILOQUY" by ReeToxA is a journey born from chaos and memory (album)

"SOLILOQUY" comes like a storm breaking through the quiet, a bold, cinematic announcement of the artist's second album, which is a huge step forward. ReeToxA's new album is a collection of trials and tribulations, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the music dates back to 1997.

"REETOXA" states its purpose from the jump, while "INSATIABLE" surges with restless energy, one of the project's most indelible tracks. "AKAROA" adds additional sounds, allowing for some breathing room between the European orchestral textures on the album. The oldest surviving work, "BOTTLE," has a spectral quality of time and endurance. "DANCING WITH LOU" and "THRIFT SHOP DRESS" bring personality and story to the music, in contrast to the emotional intimacy of "THE LISA SONG" and "GOWN."

The midsection deepens the journey, as "TRUCE" seems like a short pause, while "JOSEPHINE" and "JADE EYES" are so clear they could be in a movie. "ALCOHOL" and "DEMAND PERFECTION" address personal issues head-on, while "ERICA AND THE STARS" and "TIMOR LESTE" approach them from more of a global perspective, hinting at both personal and global meditations. "STARE AT THE SEA" and "SCHITZO WALTZ" cloud people's thoughts about themselves, and the latter has an unhinged, almost theatrical quality.

As the album goes on, "LOVE KEEPS BURNING STILL" and "YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN ME" explore openness and regret, but "PURPLE VEIN" and "DRESS ME UP" veer toward rawness, unfiltered. A fan favorite, "WAR KILLER," hits hard but with a lot of purpose, and then "GIRLS ROCK" flips the mood to defiance.

The final three songs, "WAKE UP LUCY," "STRONG," and "ALRIGHT," are something like a well-earned resolution that leaves you feeling hopeful after everything you have just been through. "SOLILOQUY" is a large, very personal piece that runs 1 hour and 25 minutes, and this is a testament to artistic longevity. This is a reckoning, and ReeToxA explains how this could change everything.
