Oliver Nolan was inspired to write "This Is Paradise" during a holiday with his family, a warm, easygoing new song about being somewhere you never want to leave. It was inspired by days spent by the beach, where the family regularly visited a beach bar and were served by the same summer worker, Poli.
Watching her work through the summer gave Nolan a bigger idea of what it would feel like to wake up every day in sunshine, walk down to the beach, and have the sea as part of your everyday working life. We've all had a holiday moment when time stands still, and the outside world seems wonderfully far away. Nolan taps into that familiar feeling and makes it the backbone of a song that embodies the fantasy of turning that temporary escape into something permanent.
"This Is Paradise" draws on a real holiday memory of finding somewhere so beautiful and peaceful you don't want to leave. It takes direct inspiration from Nolan's summer experience and the feeling of sunshine, days at the seaside, and the captivating temptation to stay just a little longer.
