Crys Matthews revisits "Feeling Good" through resilience and equality

Singer-songwriter Crys Matthews takes up the challenge with her cover of Nina Simone's classic "Feeling Good." This release features Seth Glier on piano and offers an intimate, soulful interpretation of the music, with freedom, resilience, and racial equality as its emotional intent.

"Feeling Good" is now available on Shamus Records' Holidays & Evergreens, a new compilation recording from the TRO Essex Music Group catalog. Matthews and her husband share Southern roots, a church upbringing, and a love of classical music. These influences provide a strong backdrop for the collaboration and help explain the recording's personal connection.

The arrangement features Seth Glier on piano, which fits the intimate, soulful feel that has been noted with the release. Matthews also ties the song's message to issues that are still relevant today, that freedom and resilience are constant themes, especially when connected with racial equality. Crys Matthews lends her own to the classic "Feeling Good," a soulful reimagining that honors the song's timeless message and offers a fresh perspective on dignity, perseverance, and the power of freedom.
