Tributes Delivered To Ozzy Osbourne After His Death

The rock world is mourning the loss of a legend. Ozzy Osbourne, the "Prince of Darkness" himself, the man responsible for inspiring all forms of heavy metal music, has passed away today at the age of 76. His family announced his death on July 22, and said he died peacefully with family members at his side.

Ozzy's influence cannot be overstated. The Birmingham, England, native, born John Michael Osbourne, co-founded Black Sabbath in the late 1960s, forging a whole new sound. His guttural vocals, unhinged lyrics, and stage antics turned him into an icon and, for many, the very face of heavy metal. The streets beyond Birmingham, outside of Hollywood, were lined with candlelight vigils, guitar riffs, and tears, a testament to the fact that Ozzy was more than just a musician. He was a movement. As he leaves behind six children and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, who has stuck with the rocker through fame, controversy, and health battles. With his body no longer there, his thunderous legacy now reverberates louder than ever. The skies might be more silent, but his music will boom for generations.
