Christine Brown Shares Secret Battle With Oxycodone Addiction

Christine Brown from The Sister Wives is opening up about one of the most challenging times in her life, sharing her secret battle with oxycodone addiction in her new memoir Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom.

Christine admits that it all began in 2016 after she had surgery on her knee and a torn ACL. At first, the medication was a post-surgical pain reliever, but within days, she noticed her body responding in other ways. "On the third day, after the surgery, I felt like I had the flu. I was achy from head to toe. I took an oxycodone, and all the symptoms went away," Christine wrote. That was the turning point, and she was no longer taking the medication for her knee, but rather for the relief it provided overall.

Before, "I had never taken oxycodone before, if something hurt, I took ibuprofen or aspirin," she said. But with oxycodone, she experienced a different kind of release, one that proved difficult to resist. The TLC personality revealed that she started using the drug on the set of Sister Wives despite dealing with her tumultuous relationship with then-spouse Kody Brown and his other wives.

The disclosure has highlighted an unspoken battle that Christine has been fighting, as she portrays herself as both a mother and a reality TV star. As fans saw onscreen her struggle of living life as a woman in a plural marriage, who had given birth to six children, Meri was fighting a private battle that could have very easily destroyed her future. Now, she wants to encourage others in her same situation to fight back. Addiction can happen to anyone, even those who are strong and have it all together. Christine is now using her story to raise awareness of the risks of prescription drugs being used for anything other than their intended purpose.

Christine seeking help for her oxycodone addiction follows the reality star's much-talked-about departure from Kody Brown in 2021, a move that she said gave her a newfound sense of independence and freedom. Now, she's giving credit to self-awareness, determination, and her faith for carrying her through what she describes as a devastating chapter of her life. In this memoir, Christine Brown not only shares her truth but also offers hope to others who feel trapped in silence. Her journey is a testament to the fact that even in life's worst moments, healing and freedom are possible.
