There's magic in "Behind The Waterfall (Ayayahoo)," Caper Clowns' latest single, a shining testament to that. As the fourth and final single on their new LP, "Without A Safety Net," due by June 6th, 2025, this song captures a niche variety of musical lightning, spontaneous, effortless, and profoundly alive.
Composed in minutes by vocalist Rick Kingo and entirely developed by the band in one inspired, extemporaneous sitting, "Behind The Waterfall (Ayayahoo)" was born less from exactness and more from instinct and gut-level mechanics. And that shows. It is a quintessential four on the floor, playfully infectious and full of raw energy that beckons you into its colorful sound world from the first chord.
In keeping with the band's whimsical personality, members trade off duties left and right for this. Peter Højgaard is behind the kit here for the first time in a decade, while others grabbed instruments they didn't usually play because it felt like the thing to do. That spirit of delight and liberation courses through the track. It's a bold, buoyant indie-pop gem on a scale that doesn't put on too much bombast, so it really sticks the landing.
Draped in glistening electric guitars, the bright twang of an Irish bouzouki, and a rhythm section that dances rather than drives, "Behind The Waterfall (Ayayahoo)" sounds like an invitation to let go and move with the current. The mix and mastering work courtesy of Henrik Krogh at Ferritslev Arrest give the track a spotless ensemble finish without losing its human feel and warmth.
This is Caper Clowns at their most immediate and unadulterated, and maybe it's even the song that epitomizes everything that "Without A Safety Net" stands for. If this is a sign of things to come, then June 6th can't get here soon enough.
