Carly Pearce Shares Her Story Of Lifelong Anxiety and OCD

Country singer Carly Pearce is getting vulnerable about a personal battle that has been a part of her life for years, her fight with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). And on a recent episode of Bunnie Xo's Dumb Blonde podcast, Pearce opened up on how these struggles have affected her life every day, beginning as early as her childhood.

Pearce shared with viewers that her OCD has been with her since she was a child and was apparent through seemingly mundane tasks like checking and rechecking alarms and backpacks, or getting heavily anxious during storms. "My mom would just try to calm me down, or I would freak out over storms," she remembered. "I remember her taking me to the local library to meet a meteorologist to try to calm that. I've had anxiety my whole life." These early experiences, she added, formed the groundwork for the mental health issues she would battle as an adult.

Though she said her anxiety and OCD had always been lifelong sidekicks, the COVID-19 pandemic, for her, and a breakup with fellow country artist Michael Ray, exacerbated her symptoms. "I think it just really came to a head of me wanting to do something about it in Covid," she explained, and having to process "Being taken off the road, going through a public divorce, it was like, I think my body just had a visceral reaction of like, 'Oh, my God.'" The isolation and disruption during that period made it more difficult to handle her mental health. Pearce detailed instances in which she felt like a prisoner of her own body, barely keeping it all together for interviews while her nerves bubbled underneath.

Despite the gravity of her challenges, Pearce has been actively looking for ways to cope and reclaim control. Therapy has been the anchor of her recovery, teaching her ways to cope with the crippling effects of OCD and anxiety. "It's been a journey for me," she added, emphasizing that her mental health struggles continue. Her truth is both eye-opening and empowering for others struggling with similar issues. Carly Pearce's openness about her mental health struggles is a timely reminder that anxiety and OCD can affect anyone, no matter how successful or famous. She shares her experiences, not only to tell her own story, but also to help foster wider conversations around mental health awareness and why it's essential to seek help. Pearce's journey is a tale of openness, strength, and a continued pursuit of harmony in life's unexpected twists and turns.
